What is TrailSim?

TrailSim recommends the eSIM with the best signal for your specific hiking, cycling or road-trip route, modeled segment by segment from real cell-tower data. Every order includes an offline coverage map (GPX/PDF) marking the dead zones along your route.

Who is behind TrailSim?

TrailSim is independently built and run by one developer — James Moore, a long-distance hiker who wanted honest signal data for trails. Payments are processed by Stripe and appear on your card statement as TRAILSIM, and refunds are self-service within 14 days for uninstalled eSIMs. More on the about page.

Where does the coverage data come from?

TrailSim models coverage from open data: the route geometry from OpenStreetMap and real cell-tower locations from OpenCellID, sampled every 500 meters along the route for each carrier's network. It is an estimate, not a field measurement — and every report says so plainly. See how it works.

Does my phone support eSIM?

Most phones released since 2019 support eSIM, including iPhone XS and later, Google Pixel 3 and later, and most recent Samsung Galaxy models. Your phone must also be carrier-unlocked.

What is the offline dead-zone map?

A GPX and PDF map of your route with signal, weak-signal and no-signal sections marked. It works fully offline in apps like Gaia GPS, Komoot or Organic Maps.
